Ship Shape Health Club Review
Can a Jacked & Juicy Mass Monster have a good workout at Walt Disney World?
With over two decades of fitness experience under my belt, I've had the opportunity to explore countless gyms across the globe. Recently, I had the pleasure of experiencing The Ship Shape Health Club nestled within the enchanting surroundings of Disney's Yacht and Beach Club. This hidden gem is a fitness haven with some decent equipment with a touch of a touch of Disney magic.
As you enter The Ship Shape Health Club, you're immediately greeted by a lean and efficient layout. The nautical-themed colors and subtle Disney touches create a unique ambiance that creates a solid flow experience. The cleanliness and organization of the facility are well maintained and the limited equipment and layout maximize the available space. Now this is a great fitness center for beginners or anyone just trying to “be healthy”, but if you’re a succulent and dense strongman like me you’ll need to modify your standard workout routine based on the limited poundage that this gym offers.
This place has a decent spread of equipment and it’s diverse enough to get in a full head-to-tippy-toe workout. The cable station pull-up handles were shockingly able to support my 250lb+ of succulent muscle and we had to get warmed up the right way with infinite pullups.
Equipment Rundown:
Kettlebells up to 44lbs
Cable Station (pictured above)
Lat Pull Down Machine
Flat Bench Press Machine
Dumbbells 5lbs - 50lbs
Leg Press Machine
Smith Machine that needs WAY more plates for us Mass Monsters
Treadmills, Row Machines, and Ellipticals
2 Adjustable benches
Overall, I was pretty happy with this Fitness Center. I had two workouts here on a 4 day Disney World trip and it never felt crowded or ill-equipped. During my morning workout we had about 6 people moving around and using the space, I didn’t want to rage quit my workout. The flow is well designed and the equipment choices are diverse enough to make sure that it can handle the traffic. This one ranks high on my list because of the space and the layout. I had a great 2 hour workout and it felt great based on my “Strongman Travel Workout.” I am an extremely creative lifter and didn’t share some of the strange setups that help me maximize machine stacks and how I add weight to machines and equipment that might be defined as “dangerous” or “not mechanically sound.” But you know what I always say, FITNESS FINDS A WAY!!!
